MUSIC

An old Czech proverb states that every Czech is a musician and that every Czech is born, not with a silver spoon in their mouth, but with a violin under their pillow. Many renowned composers and musicians hail from the area now known as Czechia.

Czechia  has an excellent network of primary art schools that educate the younger generations and help parents and teachers to recognize early on those with special talent. The country wants to encourage gifted students to pursue a musical career.

Who would not fall in love with the romantic melodies of Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana and the Moravian folk songs in Leoš Janáček’s operas? Today, Czechia offers a wide range of music festivals, from the classical Prague Spring, Dvořákova Praha and Smetanas Litomyšl, to the contemporary Colours of Ostrava.

Czechia has an excellent network of primary art schools that help expose young people to the arts and music. Those students with special talents are encouraged to pursue a career in music. The world-renowned mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená created a fund to further assist such schools. These schools encourage all areas of the arts – both the visual arts and music.
