FESTIVALS

Czechia is well known for its festivals, concerts, and other types of unique and special events. The Prague Spring International Music Festival is all about music and the performing arts with numerous performances of various types taking place across the city from mid-May until early June. The first festival event took place in 1946 when the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its 50th anniversary. Its popularity continues to grow every year.

Czechia is present on a number of UNESCO’s lists of Intangible Cultural Heritage – i.e., customs, traditions, and cultural events. For example, there are the colorful Shrovetide processions in the Hlinecko region and the unique festival known as the Ride of the Kings.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival takes place in the spa town of Karlovy Vary every July. The festival is one of the oldest of its kind in the world and has become the leading film event in Central and Eastern Europe.
